ANDRE GALVAO AND GUILHERME MENDES FLOWING

This is a great four minutes of transitions from two of my favorite grapplers...Gui is wearing a purple belt(geez!) as Andre is already at black belt...it is clips like these that make me think of jiu-jitsu even on a day like today when I won't get the chance to train...haha, to me it is just like "mind-surfing" a wave....only mind-training...JEDI!!!..enjoy...ossss

"Mendes-style" back take from inside the "deep half guard"

Howzit everyone?!...this is a technique that was used against myself in a private lesson I took with the Mendes Brothers while they were here staying with Island Jiu-Jitsu.(by the way I highly recommend a private lesson!)
Upon reviewing the video from the roll a hundred times, hehe, this is one way to critique the position.  However, there are a few details I didn't mention...DRILL IT!!!

"Submissions in Paradise"

If you are a loyal follower to the IJJ Blog, you have known that the multiple time World Champions have graced the islands with their presence this past month.  After a lot of work and planning, Island Jiu-jitsu made it happen with the most innovative seminar Hawaii has seen in memory.  We meant to post this blog a few weeks ago, however with the holidays and everything(Triple Crown of Surfing) we got a little behind our normal schedule.

The idea of the seminar actually began back in August of 2010, and after the amount of positive feedback we have received, we are already planning the next few to hit our islands!

This is the recap of some of the activities we did (ENJOY!!!)

Here is a picture of us at the Honolulu Airport when they arrived.

The first thing we did is go to Yardhouse in Waikiki to eat... fish and veggies.. the champion's diet.

We cruised around the island and did lots of things, like hiking Koko Head Crater

But the most epic activity was the shark tour with North Shore Shark Adventures.  Choke sharks in the water...Rafa was convinced he could choke out the sharks...

Here's a video of us getting in the cage and checking out all da sharks.  Sorry for the lack of editing here...we were getting the most out of my girlfriend's Olympus waterproof camera... but if you watch closely you'll see Rafa arm barring Gui in the CAGE!!!

Stay tuned for the next blog post that will include info from the seminar and techniques that we learned... and our visit with BJ Penn!!!!!

Hau'oli Makahiki Hou!
